Silicone Rubber Compression Molding Process
How to work?
Compression molding is as simple as making your waffles.
Place a certain amount of un-vulcanized into a mold cavity. The heat and pressure will force the silicone into contact with all areas of the mold cavity. When the parts have cured, they will be taken out from the mold.
Compression molding can meet a variety of processing needs. We will recommend a suitable production plan for you according to the usage and characteristics of your products.
Material Preparation/ Mixing
According to the application of your products, we will design specific formulations for EPDM compression molding, silicone, or other rubber materials, measuring precise amounts of base polymers and additives. Then, use a machine to mix them thoroughly. Additives may include curing agents, catalysts, fillers, colorants, and other performance-enhancing substances. It can improve the products’ high-temperature resistance, flexibility, or electrical insulation.
Cutting
Our operators will use specialized mixing equipment to mix silicone and additives evenly. To accurately control the weight of each molded product, we utilize cutting tools or machines to slice the material into long strips.
Weighing
The pre-cut silicone material is weighed accurately to ensure that the correct amount of material is used for each product. Precise measurements ensure product consistency.
Vulcanization Molding
After cutting materials, place the materials into a preheated compression mold. The mold is then closed. Heat and pressure are applied to the materials. The combination of compression and elevated temperature activates the curing process, allowing the silicone to solidify into the shape of the mold.
Demolding/ Trimming
After the products cool down, remove them from the mold. During the demolding process, special care is taken to avoid damaging the product. Any excess material, known as flash, is trimmed or removed. Our QC personnel will inspect the products for any defects, to ensure delivery to you of high-quality products.
